British Challenge Cup Championships

DynamoSchool of Gymnastics travelled to Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, along with their coaches Kerri Beaven and Emma Beales for this year’s British Challenge Cup Championships. This is the biggest competition of the year for Dynamo’s Espoir, Junior and Senior girls. The competition allows them to compete in a National event, gaining a National Challenge Ranking and also the opportunity to qualify as an elite gymnast and therefore compete in the British Championships next year.

Day 1, saw Dynamo’s Junior girls compete, with the girls starting their competition on Floor. Tayah Askham had a fantastic competition, holding her nerve and producing a personal best all around score of 46.25. This not only placed Tayah 8th all around amongst a strong field of 66 girls, but also qualified her into the British Championships next year. Tayah finished her competition on Beam, the most nerve wracking of events and produced a clean routine under pressure to score 12.25 and 4th place on this apparatus. First year Junior gymnast, Sydney Letchford also had a strong competition, despite 1 fall on her final apparatus, Sydney competed high difficulty to finish with an all around score of 40.90 for 46th position. Isabelle Prinsep, also a first year Junior, was close behind with a score of 40.70 finishing in 49th place, after producing a fantastic Floor & Vault. Olivia Essex finished in 55th position with an all around score of 39.45, finishing with a confident Beam routine. Team mate Ella Beattie-Edwards, upped her skill level over previous competitions and finished in 58th position with a total score of 38.05.

Day 2, was the turn of Dynamo’s Senior gymnasts. Jessica Wells finished in 25th position amongst a field of 34 gymnasts. Jessica finished with an all around total of 39.30 with her best routines coming on Vault and Bars. Team mate Danielle Barnes, is returning from an Achilles injury, performed on Bars for a score of 9.15. This showed Danielle’s strength and determination, taking another step forwards to continue her rehabilitation back to an all around competition in the near future.
Dynamo’s Espoir gymnasts also competed on Day 2, the largest of age groups, with over 70 gymnasts competing. Elise Blissett finished in 63rd position with an all around total score of 37.40. Elise unfortunately had a costly fall on her first apparatus, Bars, but came back strong with a personal best on Beam, 11.35, and Floor, 11.30. Team mate Lila North, finished with a total score of 35.95 for 65th place in her first Challenge Cup competition.

A fantastic weekend for Team Dynamo, with 9 girls representing the club at a such a high level. Head of Women’s Artistic at Dynamo, Kerri Beaven said of the girls performance; “We’re really proud of all the girls this weekend, showcasing some fantastic routines and high level skills at their biggest competition of the year. It’s great to of had Tayah qualify for the British Championships and show many of our girls coming through the system that it’s achievable to reach the highest level.”
